December 2025
Hello everyone, I wanted to take a moment to reach out, say hello, and simply remind you that I’m still here as your Vice President. Most days, however, you’ll find me in General Assembly on my tugger, doing the same work and facing the same challenges as so many of you active members. I truly miss my time at the hall and the chance to connect with our retirees. But, by me working in the plant full time, I save the hall thousands of dollars each year since GM covers my pay when I work in the plant. Also, it’s a reminder of why our union is as strong as it is: because of the people on that floor and because of the retirees who built it. I’ve learned that sometimes the smallest question can mean the world to the person asking it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come close to shutting down the line just to make sure someone gets the support they need. And I never hesitate—your questions, concerns, and moments of uncertainty matter. Taking the time to listen is one of the most important things I can do. What matters most is being present. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with my union brothers and sisters every single day keeps me grounded. It reminds me of where I came from, and it keeps me connected to the people I serve. Even as Vice President—second in leadership—I want you to know that I have never forgotten my roots. I am your coworker, your fellow union member, and your equal. Being out there with you is not just part of my job; it’s truly an honor.
I wish each of you a warm, joyful, and safe Christmas season. I also want to give a shout out to my Gratiot County retirees and to my daughter’s Uncle Bob who has been looking for my articles. Lastly, I want to wish my favorite retiree, my dad, Randy Whitaker, a very happy birthday!
As always, it’s an honor to be your VP of UAW Local 652. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call on me.
In Solidarity,
Lena
