I hope that you all are enjoying Michigan in all of its summer glory! Please remember to use sunscreen and hydrate!!

I want to start by thanking our election committee. We had our district committee elections and the election committee ran a smooth, organized election like they always do. I truly wish more people would see all the work that goes on behind the scenes by the union hall staff, the election committee co-chairs and the entire committee. You all do an amazing job and even though we are not done with elections yet, I think you all deserve a big thank you! Great work!

Thank you to Bernadine Ross, Ryan Eding and everyone that helped out with the Buddy Poppy drive at the plant just before Memorial Day weekend. This year LDT collected over $4,300. Those funds go to help support local disabled vets at the VA hospital, VA National Children’s Home, PTSD care, on-going care and services for disabled veterans with multiple facets of care needs. What a generous donation days before we honor our fallen heroes. Well done LDT!!

I was able to attend the “No Kings” protest at the state capitol. If you attended and I didn’t get to see you I’m sorry we missed each other but it was so crowded it would have been hard to find you! It was refreshing to see so many people supporting each other and our community. It truly was “what democracy looks like!” An estimated 5 million people attended these rallies across the United States, thank you to all who attended the events all over the state and the country.

It seems that there are some people that want to take credit for the gains that were won in the 2023 National Agreement. For us at LDT we spent 5 weeks on the picket line fighting for workers across the country. Here is a link to the 2023 contracts:

If you scroll down a bit you will find the hourly highlighter which outlines two full pages (pages 11 and 12) of investments that secure work for 25 GM/UAW plants in the United States. Don’t be fooled by recent headlines giving elected people credit for something that they did NOT support and had nothing to do with. Thousands of workers across the country secured that work by standing up and standing strong in solidarity.

Mike
