East Lansing Film Festival!
Posted On: Nov 08, 2017
There's a fine lineup of films for the East Lansing Festival's 20th Anniversary! (November 9-16) Some are at Wells Hall on the MSU Campus. Yeah, I know, but traffic and parking are not a problem on the weekend, since there's no home game on Saturday. So you might consider the film pictured above, "As Goes Janesville," at Wells Hall at 4:00 this Saturday. But some films are also, or exclusively, being shown at the Studio C! movie theater behind the Meridian Mall.
From the website: "As Goes Janesville" delivers a powerful multi-faceted account of the struggles and hopes of union workers, business leaders, and elected officials to rebuild their lives and their town’s economyfollo wing the 2008 closure of the oldest operating General Motors plant. Meanwhile, newly elected governor Scott Walker ignites a firestorm by introducing a bill to end collective bargaining, sparking a recall election. This powerful and balanced film shows the power of community, and of individuals coming together despite diverging politics to protect the American
Dream. Michigan take note. Sponsored by Daily Work/Our Daily Lives. Discussion after with Dr. John Beck.
I haven't seen it, so I'm not actually recommending it. I'm not crazy about that word "balanced," as Gov. Walker and his cronies (including the Kochs) are about as unbalanced as they come.
Anyhoo, the festival's website is at http://elff.com/Films/
