Retiree Update from Joe Sagy August 2010
Posted On: Aug 11, 2010

As you may be aware, UAW members eligible for the Legal Services Plan pay imputed income. If both spouses worked for GM or Delphi, they may be charged for two imputed income amounts.

To avoid this increased laibility and if the above stated circumstance exists, one eligible participant of the Plan now may declare coverage for both eligible parties for tax purposes. Both will have the same coverage, with only one member being charged with imputed income.
To provide notice of dual coverage or to delete or reinstate coverage, the member must call 1-800-521-7818, ext 517 and indicate they are calling regarding dual Plan coverage. Eligble participants’ names, Social Security numbers, locations of employment, and local union numbers should be available at the time of the call.       This must be done no later than Friday September 24, 2010 and will become effective November 1, 2010.
As a reminder, if you are retired and your spouse is on Medicare as the result of Social Security disablity, they must have Part B along with the Part A. For example, if you are still working and your spouse is on Medicare, all they need is Part A. After you retire they must apply for Part B. Feel free to call with any questions.
